Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the frequently asked questions about Lash Extension.  Read on to learn interesting and important details before you book your appointment. Should you have further questions, contact us directly!

What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?

Eyelash extensions are synthetic lashes made of a lightweight polyester, silk or faux mink material. These “lashes” are made to look like your own natural lashes. They create increased length and fullness. Extensions are available in many different lengths, curls, and thickness.

The proper length and size is determined for each client by their lash stylist, and multiple sizes are used for each client. The lashes are applied to your natural lashes one by one. 

What is the difference between Classic, Volume and Hybrid lash extensions?

Classic lash extensions use a synthetic eyelash that is either 0.12mm or 0.15mm in diameter and attach it to your natural eyelash one by one covering 80-90% of your natural eyelashes. The extension will usually double the thickness of your natural lash and lengths are 20-50% longer than your natural lashes.  

Volume & Mega Volume lashes are used to create more dense fluffy appearance. We generally use lashes that range from  0.07mm-0.03mm in diameter for 2D-6D Volume & Mega Volume extensions on each eyelash. Due to the weight of the Volume Lashes, we are able to use multiples per one natural lash with no harm done. The multiple lashes are wrapped around each natural lash in a fan type configuration creating more volume and density.

Light Volume (Hybrid Lashes) application is a combination of the classic and volume technique.  We will usually place 1/2 extensions with classic and finish the other half of the extension application with volume lashes. This is a beautiful combination. Dense and not too fluffy looking. 

Why do lash extensions cost so much?

Eyelash extensions, when applied properly, is a very intricate, time-consuming practice that requires a high level of skill and attention to detail. The products that we use at Soothe Aesthetics are only of the highest quality and are very costly. It takes a lot of practice and time to master the art of eyelash application.

We have priced ourselves as competitively as possible for the training we’ve undergone, our experience, the quality of the application, and the quality of products used. We also guarantee our work for the first 7 days.

Are lashes attached to the skin?

No, lash extensions are individually attached to your own natural lashes, one by one. They are attached approximately 1/2-1 mm away from the eyelid on the natural eyelash.

Why doesn’t Soothe Aesthetics use  “real” mink lashes?

Real mink lashes are artificially curled and sprayed with chemicals to hold the curl and increase their diameter, much like when you style your hair in the mornings. With heat, water, and steam, they lose their curl and their beauty. Authentic mink lashes are also available in only one thickness, which limits our style choices. Most importantly, we can never verify the humane treatment of the animals these “lashes” are harvested from.

Can everyone wear lash extensions?

Unfortunately, no. If you are very sensitive to adhesives such as medical tape, glue for acrylic nails, or hair dye, you are most likely not a good candidate for lash extensions.Also, if you have difficulty with your thyroid and have thin, brittle hair and nails due to thyroid problems, then lashes are most likely not a good choice for you. Just a note here: we can only apply lash extensions to the lashes you already have to make them thicker and longer. 

How long do lash extensions last?

It depends on what is meant by "last". You will still have some lash extensions attached to your natural lashes after 4-6 weeks. That being said, they won’t look so good. To keep lashes looking full and fresh, we recommend touch-ups at 2-3 weeks.

Lashes grow from the follicle, mature, and then fall out. Most people do not realize that their natural lashes fall out continuously. They constantly shed and replace themselves—that is why with proper applications, you can wear lash extensions for years and not need a break.

We recommend 2-3 week Lash Fill appointments to keep lashes looking good all the time. This is a 60min appointment for Classic Lashes, and up to 90min. For Volume lashes. Again, this varies depending on the number of lashes you have, your lifestyle, your lash growth pattern, and most importantly, home care.
